Swim with Dolphins in the Mayan Riviera
It's hard to believe that dolphins are related to whales, but they are. Actually, there are almost forty species of these enchanting sea creatures and they can be as small as four feet long and weigh as little as 90 pounds. However, they can also be as large as thirty feet long and weigh ten tons.
They mostly eat fish and squid, and they are extremely intelligent, friendly, and playful. People have come to love them. They are found almost all over the world. Swimming with dolphins has become a popular vacation feature for many people in recent years, especially when they vacation in the Caribbean.
These delightful creatures appear often in Greek mythology. A man, a boy, or even a deity on the back of a dolphin can be found on many ancient coins. In 1963, the movie Flipper featured a dolphin and is probably most responsible for the modern craze to have an encounter with one. The movie was followed by a television series, and Flipper became a sort of seagoing Lassie. Flipper was a Bottlenose Dolphin and he understood commands and was heroic. The Day of the Dolphin, a movie that came out in 1973 has kidnapped dolphins assassinating a naval military target using explosives.

Dolphin Discovery
Located on Isla Mujeres, twenty minutes or so by boat from the hotel zone of Cancun, it's a beautiful spot with palm trees, white sand, and turquoise waters and an ideal place to have your swim-with-the-dolphins experience. You can be certain that the dolphins are receiving appropriate care here; this is Dolphin Discovery's first concern. However, every detail has been planned to make your experience here even better than you imagined. You can shake hands with them, be towed by them, get a hug from them, feed them, get a kiss from one, whatever your desire.
Once your swim is over, you can explore the island if you wish. Garrafon Park is an area devoted to ecology and where there's an opportunity to be awed by the greatness of nature. There are many aquatic activities available here such as snorkeling and kayaking. If it's relaxation and good food you prefer, then you can also opt for that experience while you look at the sea.
Spontaneous sea fountains are exciting to see. Since you're on an island here, it's possible to experience the sea in a special way. The Beach Club and Bar is famous as is the Boutique Dolphinmania, where you can take home souvenirs of your visit here such as t-shirts and toys. The staff will take pictures and videos of you and your family while you're enjoying Dolphin Discovery to make certain you will remember your visit forever.
Puerto Aventuras
This beautiful location in the Mexican Caribbean is only 15 minutes from Playa del Carmen. The managers of Puerto Aventuras are very careful to respect nature in their small city in the jungle. They also offer a swim-with-the-dolphins opportunity inside a tropical green island. The dolphins live in a lagoon here. You can stay in the facilities here if you wish. There are several shops, boutiques, cafeterias, and handcraft shops.
There are even baby dolphins you can swim and play with here. However, the Dolphin Royal Swim focuses on action and speed. You will have an experience you'll remember for the rest of your life. In addition to all kinds of aquatic activities, you'll get to know the dolphins. They are so friendly and playful, they'll steal your heart, and you'll have the time of your life.
This program features transportation from the hotel zone. They take groups of up to ten people, the group of ten to swim with two dolphins. Children must be 8 years old to participate, and those younger than 11 may only participate with an adult. You will need to wear safety vests in order to participate.

How do you measure for a snorkel vest?
It seems as though there is only two sizes for snorkel vests-Child and Adult. What if I'm an adult but am tiny? I'm 5'3" and 110 lbs. I'm looking for the jacket kind that zips, not the bib kind. My partner got one and it's huge on me. Shouldn't it fit closer, sort of like another layer of wet suit?
It is essentially a life vest-- it doesn't matter the size. Sounds like you would be a womens XS or S.
