How to Tackle Lure Fishing

Rods
If you are only intending to go on the occasional lure fishing trip, then you can certainly get away with the normal rods you would use for bait fishing. A light feeder rod will certainly be adequate for perch spinning, while a medium 10-11 ft (3-3.35 m) carp rod will handle any pike that swims. However, if you intend lure fishing to be a major part of your angling, it will reward you to invest in the right equipment. If you are going to be doing a lot of boat fishing, single-handed bait casting rods of around 9 ft (2.74 m) are ideal. The 9 ft (2.74 m) Spinflex, which can take main lines from 5-12 lb (2.27-5.44 kg), is a very versatile tool for the lure angler.
Reels
Regular lure casting and retrieval places great strain on reels, by wearing gears, loosening handles and weakening bail arm springs. For efficient lure fishing, you also need very smooth line lay and long cast facilities, as well as a totally reliable clutch for when you eventually hook that monster. Aero GT reels have everything the lure angler needs. They are strong, light (most important when holding the rod constantly), and very smooth in operation with no bail arm backlash to create tangles. Most importantly, the better reels are vibration free, as continually retrieving a lure with a reel that is constantly wobbling is a tremendous irritation. Also important is the fighting drag system, an important safeguard when a very big fish intercepts your lure.
Lines and Trace Wires
Trace wire for lure fishing should be no less than 15 lb (6.8 kg), but this should be stepped up if you intend some big pike fishing at some of the large trout reservoirs. Where the pike are known to run to 40 lb (18.14 kg) you want traces of at least 25 lb (11.34 kg). Stainless seven strand trace wire, as well as being of very consistent quality, is thin and supple. This is important as it has minimum impact on lure action. As far as main lines are concerned, 12 lb (5.44 kg) is about right on most fisheries, but if you are fishing very light spinners for perch you need to go lighter as you will find the action of the lure impaired. The frequent casting demands good abrasion resistance, and one of the best lines for this purpose is Sufix synergy.
Lights, an Essential For Night Fishing
To the ones who enjoy it, fishing seems to be the best pastime. It is peaceful as well as relaxing. And, when you get a big catch, the joy you will feel is incredible! When you go, you need to be well equipped with all the necessary canoe accessories when using a canoe. Similarly, if you are using a kayak you may need kayak rigging supplies, which would come in handy for fishing. Yet, since some fish only bite at night, you need to make sure that you have your most valuable piece of equipment: lights.
You might wonder why lights are important. Besides, providing you enough light to see things around, what is their purpose? The truth is that these lights are far more important than just being used for illumination. They are important because most fish are attracted towards light. Therefore, it becomes easy to catch them. Just like bugs may become attracted to your night bulb, fish is also attracted towards the shiny appearance of light. And know for a fact that when small fish come near, they bring along bigger fish, which are chasing behind them, closer to the fisherman.
Using two lights is better than using one light. This will help you if one of the lights dies down, as you will at least have a backup. If you are using both of them at a time, place them 3' to 4' part. This will enlarge the radius of light, and therefore bring in more fish towards the light. From the aforementioned lines, you can deduce that the key is to attract the bait-fish because other fish will follow behind. To attract bait-fish, the best choice is to use two lights at a time. One of them should be white, and the other can be either blue or green.

You can even make your own light which is not a difficult task. First, you need to have a plastic container. Next, make a hole in the handle. Make sure you do not make this hole inside the body of the container. Now, attach the fishing line to the box via this hole. If you are left with excess wire, tie it around something else that is lying around. Make sure this is reachable because you might need this when you are lowering the light downwards which works best for 30 feet of fishing line. You should use a small light so that it is easy for you to lift it after you lower it down.
Now that you are done making the container, you should test it. Make sure you close it tightly and then lower it down the water. If there are any bubbles, it means that you have not closed it tightly enough. Add some pebbles to make the container sink. Place a light in a bag and put it in the box. It is better to use LEDs for this purpose. Lastly, close the lid and lower it down the water.
Fishing will turn out to be your best pastime if you like to relax and be sure to have all the necessary stuff and nothing can be more relaxing than this activity!
10 Types Of Fishing Lures That Can Help You Catch The Big One
When it comes to fishing lures, you want to be sure you have the right one for the job but with so many to choose from how do you pick the best one? The waters you are fishing, the time of year and the weather all have an impact on what type of lure will look tasty to the species of fish you were trying to catch.
There are a variety of different lures, all in different shapes sizes and colors and most avid anglers have quite a selection in their tackle box. Here are a few types you might want to include in your list of fishing gear.
Surface Lures
These are lures that you retrieve along the surface of the water and are fun to use since the fish explodes up out of the water in order to take in the lure. They are great if you're fishing in waters that have a lot of weeds since they remain on the top and are less likely to get tangled in the weeds. Surface lures come in all kinds of colors and shapes and it's fun to pick them out in the store and find the ones that work best for you.
Spoons
Spoons are a simple metal lure that looks like a spoon. When you retrieve them they make a wobbling motion which is attractive to fish. They are inexpensive and fairly easy to use so a great choice for beginners.
Spinners
This type of fishing lore has a blade that rotates and the rotating motion gives off a reflection which imitates the light glinting off of fish scales in the water. When you are retrieving a spinner, you can alter the speed that you retrieve thus making it look like an injured fish. If you're fishing for pike a large spinner can be great but if you go in for mullet or trout try a smaller size.
Jerk Baits
Jerk baits don't have any movement on their own but allow the angler to jerk them and bring them to life like a wounded fish or worm. You cast them into the water and then make a jerky motion with your rod which simulates the movements of an injured fish making it look like a tasty morsel to the fish you are trying to attract.
Soft Baits
These are soft rubber baits that could look like long worms or frogs or a bunch of other shapes. Typically these are used with a weighted jig head and retreat slowly or in a jerky motion.
Floating Divers
This type of fishing lure sinks into the water after you cast and can cover depths up to 15 feet or more. Each floor is designed for a different depth and this depends on the angle of the lure. A lure with a smaller angle will dive deeper than a lore with a bigger angle. Depending on the depth of the water that your target fish hangs out in will dictate the type of lure you use.
Light Standard Casting Lures
Standard casting lures can be used to catch a large range of fish including certain types of bass if retrieve data slow to medium speed. They range from about 1/16 of announced to 3 ounces and are typically used for freshwater fishing of lightweight species.
Heavy Standard Casting Lures
This heavy fishing lure is best used for the heaviest fish like bass and walleye. Just like any other lure they come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors.
Long Casting - Jigging Lures
These jigging lures are used for long casting and are used to catch anything from tuna to trout to pike.
Deadly Diamond Lures
This is a small fishing lure that is under 1 ounce and is used to catch the smaller fish. It's cut with a diamond shape on the top and the light reflects from this therefore attracting fish. These lures are typically used for walleye and crappy although can work good for other small species to.

What is the best way to catch bass in these two locations?
1) A pond that is 1'-4' deep it is only about 1 or 2 acres. I have tried almost all lures and worms and have only caught one bass with a Top-Diving lure that is silver with a light blue on it's top and part of it's head. I have tried shiners but once again no luck, and I know that there are bass in there.
2) A 2,534 acre lake, once again I have tried almost everything and I have caught only one bass with a dead shiner that I was reeling in, the bass came and took it. The fishing areas(That are on land, I don't have a boat) range from being 5'-(around) 8'.
Extra Info) Both bass where about 3 or 4 lbs and where 12-14" in length (I did not get exact information) And both areas are pretty weedy.
Try night fishing it with a topwater lure like a black jitterbug, or a popper like a Heddon Pop N image. Cast it out reel your slack ,let it sit for 5 to 10 seconds move it a little bit let it sit 5 seconds or so and repeat . Keep your line tight , when you hear a splash set the hook.
It sounds like your fishing for pressured bass , which means they get fished for during the day a lot . If there are bass there they will feed at night , especially any big ones , dont use a light if you can help it and definately dont shine the light on the water.
Try that on both lakes and see what happens I have had great sucess at night time but use bug spray before ya go out the skeeters can get bad.
Shiners should work great in the day ? I fish them 3 feet or so under a bobber cast them out and let them swim around (Keep them lively dont let them die in your bait bucket ). If you dont get a bite in 15 minutes in one spot with a shiner move to another . Fish them near the outside edge of weed beds or where there is deeper water near by.
