over the summer I was a ocean lifeguard at Riis Park in New York City, and on a rough summer day end of july, I went in on a case to get a girl caught in a rip tide. As I went out, i dove through a wave and when the wave hit me it pulled my torp (the orange thing like bay watch) and took my shoulder right out. I went to the ER, and followed up with an orthopedic surgeon. I am a swimmer, going to swim DI for Manhattan College this year as a freshman, and it was recommended being young and athletic to get the surgery to fix it. Now i wanted to know if anyone has dislocated there shoulder and continued to swim WITHOUT the surgery. Also if anyone has got the surgery to fix up their shoulder, what is the recovery time?? thats my main worry, i am most likly to get it done, my moms a nurse and i dont want to f up my next 3 years swimming.
