How to use the Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkel Keeper Does anybody know if I can purchase a separate dry-top attachement for my snorkel? I have a Speedo Condor snorkeling set but the snorkel is labeled "splash proof dry top" which means I cannot dive under water as it does not completely keep water out. I would like to change just the top of the snorkel and replace with a dry-top one, as I am very happy with the mask and how it fits. Is that possible?
Why do you want to keep water out of the snorkel? Mine just fills with water and then I blow it out when I surface. it's a bit risky, in my personal view, to try to keep water out because it will be a shock if any does get in and you won't be prepared for it. get used to water being in the snorkel when you submerge, and it will become second nature to clear it when you surface. In order to keep your snorkel gear in optimum shape, you need to give it a little TLC. Don't worry, it's not that complicated and it will ensure that your snorkel gear will last for years of enjoyment. So let's cover the maintenance of the Snorkel. The snorkel is one of the easiest items of the Snorkel Gear to maintain. It's almost maintenance free. For a regular basic snorkel, a simple rinse in fresh water after using in salt water or chlorine pool would be all you need to do to keep it in good working order for many years. Of course, make sure to store it in a cool dry place and away from direct sunlight. Now, with the more sophisticated ones, like the dry, semi-dry and snorkels with purge valves, you need to make sure that all salt, sand or chlorine residues is completely removed from the valve. These valves have a thin membrane that needs to be checked for tears or small holes this could cause your snorkel to leak. Although this is not very common, for some snorkels, you can find replacement valves for them. This will ensure a proper function of the snorkel the next time you go snorkeling. The mouthpiece has some bite tabs. These tabs are for additional securing of the snorkel to the mouth. With time, use and the bighting of the tabs, can eventually break them off. Fortunately for most of the snorkels out there you can acquire a new mouthpiece and through a very simple procedure replace the old mouthpiece with the new one. The other part of the snorkel that with time may give you problems is the snorkel keeper; this is the part that hooks up the snorkel to your snorkel mask. Although you can hold your snorkel in place with your snorkel mask strap, I recommend replacing the keeper as soon as possible, since the snorkel could slide out when not in use and you could lose it. Yes, you can purchase a new Snorkel Keeper and they are very inexpensive.
