Properties of water -The GoPro Hd Underwater Camcorder Hi there, I want to spend between £300-400 on an HD video camera. I want to use it for recording me and my mates when we go out and using underwater for when i go diving. And are the underwater HD cases universal, or do they only fit a certain type of camera? Thanks in advance There is no good high definition camcorder for your stated budget. The least you should be looking at are the Sony HDR-HC9 or Canon HV30. For the housings, it depends how deep you'll be going. The hard-case housings are more expensive than the camcorders and can go deeper than the soft-case housings. They are not "universal" - though for consumer camcorders, some housings will fit many different cameras because the camcorders are all about the same size. Sony has kits for some of their camcorders for underwater use - they do not go very deep. Check Ewa-Marine for soft-case underwater housings. Check bhphotovideo for hard-case housings - and remember, if you get beyond about 8 meters, you will need underwater lights, too... Generally you will want at least 30 minutes of battery life when recording and if possible 60 minutes. This will depend on the type of batteries and how much power the device consumes.
