In baseball during the dead ball era, was there any good defense and fielding plays like there is today?
Other than pitching, During the 1800s and 1900s and 1910s and 1920s, what was the defense and fielding like? Was there any good gold glove type plays such as diving catches, laserbean accurate throws to tag out runners and the stuff you see today? How come whenever they show highlights of those eras, it was so easy to get back to back hits, fielders dropping the ball and kicking the ball, unprofessional like little league errors, they didnt run or dive for the ball to make the catch, runners could advance too easily? Did they even wear gloves? What would it be like to watch a game from that time or the dead ball era in person? Would i be able see excellent impressive plays? There was no gold glove awards back then. Did they ever make very tough difficult plays like they would today? It seems like Willie Mays revolutionized the game by playing gold glove type defense as much as Babe Ruth relovutionized the game by hitting home runs.
